I was able to reconstruct data on NAEd's annual yield of new members. And
the answer to the question, how many, is
a. It depends on the size and quality of the nominee pool (note 2006 for
example)
and
b. It is, in an overall way, responsive to an overall increase in the size
of the population of educational scholars. (Not sure how intentional this
is).
I would add that the Nomination Process for the NAE is VERY involved, more
in the direction of a promotion case. And not unlike AERA's fellows
process.
- Vita
- One sample article
- Career summary narrative (500 word limit)
- Nomination letter (800 word limit)
- 2 endorsement letters (shorter)
- A committee vetting process to determine whose name goes to the whole
membership for the voting ballot
- A process to determine who, among those whose names got on the ballot,
should be elected.
I am not sure we want to go there. BUT I do think that the actual yield
variability supports a case for a set for variable yield targets for us???
