Yes that makes a big difference in as far as the moodle patch won't work if
they are not on the same server. Ideally XOT should also be installed inside
the Moodle directory. That's explained in the readme.
Make sure the config path is relative to the root.

Did the installation work via demo.php first? Always worth trying that to
ensure everything else is ok first. So try this...
The demo.php worked fine for me. I believe the path to moodle is correct but
I will recheck tomorrow. I'm using xampplite and running both moodle and
xerte from the same install is that makes a difference?
