[Xerte] Installing Xerte toolkit

I have just tried to install the Xerte toolkit on a Centos5 server - which is already running a wiki and Moodle happily - but this installation completely defeats me. Nothing seems to run on the installation page. I have manually run the sql code that come out as 'errors' using phpMyAdmin, but when I go to the web page I just get  the number '1'.

Where am I going wrong??
