No, no other instances running.

In this case, I think I found the issue, which was a bit baffling in
itself.

There were some ghost characters in the xml descriptor file I was
loading.
Why it would work on first run, then fail on the second run, I don't
know.

Something else has the local connection to the debug window open? You
must have XMLEngine.swf running somewhere else on your machine?

Has anyone ever figured out a pattern with the debug window thingy where
the window stops responding?
I am not running 2 instances of Xerte.
A bit of a drag, as you have to close right out of everything and
restart to get it back.
In this case, 3 restarts and no luck...
