[Xerte] RE: Institutional Browser issues

Yes this is exactly the problem, the USER-FILES folder is completely empty (except a text file).

XOT is obviously not writing to the folder - but I don't know why. The folder security settings look fine to me.

Is there any way to force XOT to try and create a directory and produce an error report?

Each time you create project a new folder should be created in xertetoolkits\USER-FILES\

If you can't edit then perhaps they're just not being created. Can you check the directory?

If you can edit but not preview then it might be a failure to recognise rlt etc. as XML.

No, logging in as a new user gives a blank workspace.

If you want to see if this happens for you, goto: http://elearning.net.marjon.ac.uk/rlo/ and login using john/johnpassword

Create a second user, log in as that user, do you see the other users material?

Hi Pat

I've just got back to having a look at XOT again. I've tried you first suggestion from below. Here's a screenshot of the session output:

I've logged on using switch.php, but as mentioned below can't edit content.

Any suggestions?

Adam

1) I can create a new project (although it doesn't appear in the Projects Window until I refresh).

That's the session not being set properly.

try this echo "<pre>"; print_r($_SESSION); echo "</pre>"; somewhere in index.php

looks like the session isn't setting properly.

2) Once it's created and I try to 'edit' the flash pop-up won't let me do anything. None of the insert etc buttons are clickable.

Probably for the same reason - but that usually means one of the paths isn't working correctly as the Xerte interface needs the xwd and rlt to configure itself, and its likely its not getting either.

Try dumping out the session and seeing what you get.

Failing that, install fiddler, and see what turns red.

I've got XOT up and running using 'switch.txt' as the index page. This works and lets me login. Once I'm in things unfortunately don't seem to be working.

I can create a new project (although it doesn't appear in the Projects Window until I refresh). Once it's created and I try to 'edit' the flash pop-up won't let me do anything. None of the insert etc buttons are clickable.

I've tried using IE8 (and in compatibility mode) and Firefox 3.5. Server is running IIS6 with PHP 5 and MySQL.

Any ideas what this issue could be? I suspect it's trying to write to various folders on the server but failing? There are no logs in the folder.

Thanks

Adam

Just having fun diagnosing an issue that's raised its head now that more users are using Xerte as part of a wider pilot

The issue is with the Edit and Properties windows

I use IE and have no problem with accessing this functionality from the Uni or anywhere else
Firefox and Safari work fine from outside the University, but most of the time when accessing from within the Uni using these browsers the Edit window is blank and Properties window comes up with "Sorry you do not have rights to this template". The annoying thing is that sometimes it works fine from the Uni.

As this is a pilot we are using an index page based on switch.txt

The easiest solution is just to tell everyone to use IE, but it would be nice not to.

So...anyone else had similar issues?

Thanks

Neil
