That is very sad news. Tore was a real gentleman, a lovely man, and a very fine syrphidologist. I shall miss him.

Dear Syrphidae-friends,

I would like to share with you that Tore R. Nielsen passed away on 4th August in Oslo at an age of 87 years. Tore has had innumerable contributions to the Syrphidae taxonomy, especially in the genus Platycheirus. He was always keen to share his knowledge and encouraged others to enjoy and study Syrphidae.
