*As I was reading the comments about nominations of members, I went back to
some notes I was making when we*
*decided to separate lists of deceased and living members a number of years
ago. **I remember at that time that I contacted reading/language
arts/literacy folks and became aware that there were folks in sister
organizations who were interested in working with us to make our lists
representative of our whole profession racially and across the globe. It
continues to be interesting to discover folks even in RHF who believe that
RHF is part of ILA, that secondary English educators aren't really
considered, etc. **I wrote the following note to RHF at that time: *
*Have been in touch with reading/language arts/ literature historians and
they are very interested in working with LRA, ILA and NCTE to add to the
Virtual Hall of Fame members.*
*Perhaps if we think more broadly and reach out to the world of
professionals concerned with the fields related to reading teaching,
learning, literature etc. we may **discover colleagues of color who we are
totally unaware of. I agree that we need to continue the discussion we are
having and move toward action as well. *Yetta

*No child needs to be motivated to learn. To learn is their trade.*
*They can't stop learning because they can't stop growing.*

*Every time we teach a child something, we keep him/her from *
*inventing it. On the other hand, that which we allow **him/her **to*
*discover will remain visible for **the rest of his/her life. *
