*Knowledge Building Gets Journal Spotlight*
The Fall issue of *Perspectives Magazine*, a quarterly publication of the
International Dyslexia Association, has just been made available to the
general public—and features an entire journal
<https://knowledgematterscampaign.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=338dcc4d180e1a9e0e12f16da&id=b161d2e755&e=a7c6831d62>
dedicated to the importance of background knowledge to reading success! I
was privileged to guest edit this issue with Natalie Wexler, author of *The
Knowledge Gap: The Hidden Cause of America’s Broken Education System—and
How to Fix It*.
In the issue are articles by Susan Neuman, Tim Shanahan, Judith Hochman,
and David Liben (a couple of these co-authored by Natalie and me!) and
reviews of books written by E.D. Hirsch and Nell Duke (one of these done by
Louisa Moates herself!) We hope you find this material a fitting way to
kick off the 2020 reading year—and that you will share

the contents widely with your colleagues in social media and elsewhere!
