Dear Colleagues:

I am so saddened and shocked by Bill’s passing.  Bill and I enjoyed a long and wonderful relationship in early literacy.  We shared with each other the work we were doing and spoke together over the years at ILA meetings.  He was always kind, inclusive, and informed.  He was the consummate example of the “gentleman and a scholar."  He cared for his students, teachers, and his colleagues.  I shall miss his gentle ways in my life as a friend and colleague.
