RE: Distance Participation in RHF Business Meeting at LRA


Dear Reading Hall of Fame Colleagues:

In preparation for our upcoming RHF Business Meeting at LRA on December 1, 2018, it has been suggested that we provide those who cannot attend access to the proceedings of the Business Meeting via ZOOM or another virtual distance technology.  Since we will be discussing our new voting procedure document as one very important item of business, there may be increased interest in joining the discussion from a distance. The use of such technology requires an Internet connection, and dependent upon the number of participants, a broad band hard wired Internet connection may be necessary if we exceed the number of participants who can be served on a normal wireless connection.

I have looked into this possibility and the room for our Breakfast Meeting at LRA will have a wireless Internet connection; however, if the number of participants is large, we would need to engage a hard wired Internet broad band connection which would cost the organization $400.

My purpose in writing to you is to ask three questions.  First, if we offered ZOOM how many RHF members who cannot attend LRA/RHF would be inclined to participate via ZOOM in the RHF Business Meeting?  Second, if it is a large group, then should we pay the $400 charge? Third, inasmuch as we have not budgeted for a $400 charge in our annual meeting budget, how would we pay for the additional cost?

I would appreciate your input on this matter at your earliest convenience, as we need to make some decisions relative to this request.
