I too am soon entering the ranks of the semi-retired.  After meeting obligations at this summer’s ILA conference, I will not likely attend again.  But, will attend LRA every year for the foreseeable future.

A few years ago we offered cosponsored sessioins at several conferences including the EUROPEAN conference. I think we should dothat again. I want to remind all of us that the Reading Hall oof Fame is anindependent organization and not a part of any group including ILA. ILA has provided secretarial services but I am sure they would charge us for that. We have become quite a robust organizatioin now with a good leadrship team, a functioning website and good visibility.
Meeting at LRA should be a boost to their program and good connectiions for us to young researchers.

I feel sad for ILA but short of law suits I see no way to fight the hostile take over it has undergone.

You raise important issues and I agree with you that any move would need to involve LRA leadership.  Awhile ago, I proposed a session at AERA, where we could bridge the different groups involved with Literacy.  I wonder if we might think in different ways and think about where we could support directions in research and engaged scholarship.  Might we alternate different meetings to support the work of RHoF?
