Dear Reading Hall of Fame Members:
For some years now the Reading Hall of Fame has had funds, donated by members, available to provide partial support for travel to be granted to new inductees facing a high and unusual cost to attend either their induction to the Hall of Fame or their symposium presentation the following year at the IRA convention. This has operated without a clearly stated policy and it has been suggested that such a policy is needed now. President Lesley Morrow has asked me to post this to our RHoF listserv. What follows is a proposed policy for your consideration. It will be put to a vote at the upcoming Hall of Fame meeting on May 10th in Orlando.

Proposed Policy on Reading Hall of Fame Travel Grants
May 10, 2011 – Member Meeting, Orlando
A limited number of Reading Hall of Fame travel grants are available to newly elected members who must travel great distances for the purpose of supporting their attendance on the occasion of either their induction to the Reading Hall of Fame or their participation in the following year’s co-sponsored session. The grant is supported by voluntary contributions from members. The grant is given one time only and is intended to support, not fully reimburse, reasonable travel expenses. A written request and proposal is to be submitted to the president at least 60 days prior to the date of the Hall of Fame’s annual meeting. The president, with the advice and consensus of the officers of the Reading Hall of Fame, must approve all such grants.

Thank you for considering this.
