Reading Hall of Fame colleagues,

I followed Yetta’s suggestion and read David Berliner’s blog on Why giving standardized tests to really young children is dumb.  David’s blog inspired me to finish a column entitled: Is Reading in Kindergarten the Means for Ensuring College and Career Readiness? Some of you will recognize the ideas as ones I presented as part of the Reading Hall of Fame session at IRA in Orlando. This past decade, kindergarten reading (especially with decodables) has become an established part of schooling.  I don’t want the next decade’s legacy to be forcing preschoolers to look at decodables.

If you have ideas of venues or groups with whom this piece might be shared, I would greatly appreciate it.
