Dear Colleagues,
Don's funeral is to be held this coming Friday, ( October 1) at Leura 
Crematorium, at 11.30 am. Leura is a town in the Blue Mountains, about 
50 miles due west of Sydney, on the Great Western Highway which leads 
to the Western Plains of NSW. I'm going to try to be there.

I had a long personal acquaintance with Don that goes back many years.

He made a very important contribution to reading instruction and
teacher education in his native New Zealand, in Australia, and in this
country as well. He really knew how to reach teachers.
