MERGA-26: First Announcement
The 2003 Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia [MERGA]
conference will be held at Deakin University, Geelong Waterfront
Campus (Woolstores building), from 10am on Sunday 6 July to 1pm on
Thursday 10 July. People travelling to PME could consider visiting
Australia on the way!
The theme of the conference, in keeping with the Woolstores venue, is
MERINO: Mathematics Education Research: Innovation, Networking, Opportunity.
Highlights of the MERINO conference will be:
=85 plenary addresses: from Anne Watson (University of Oxford); and
from Peter Howard (Australian Catholic University), Sue Matthews (NSW
Aboriginal Education Consultative Group) and Bob Perry (University of
Western Sydney);
=85 research Papers, Symposia, Posters, Short Communications, Special
Interest Groups, State and National Reports, AND two new initiatives:
Round Table Presentations and Workshops;
=85 a great social program with reception, dinner and dancing,
excursion, and a night at Lamby's all covered by your registration
(less than US$300); and
=85 two extended sessions: one on reviewing of grant applications,
theses, tender applications, and journal articles; and one on the
Teachers' Day that focuses on research and innovation in assessment
in the early, middle and later years.
Every day will include:
=85 conference papers and opportunities to learn about mathematics
education research;
=85 reports on recent innovations and opportunities;
=85 chances for networking and professional development;
=85 a little bit of history; and
=85 a lot of fun.
As well as the Early Career Award (ECA) and the Practical
Implications Award (PIA), there are two new awards available for
conference participants to apply for:
=85 Research Graduate Awards
=85 Student Bursaries.
