Hi Everyone,
This week's lunch talk will be given by Mark (Ke Ma), on Thursday at 1pm in A113. Title and abstract are below:
1D Lya power spectrum measurements from massive spectroscopic surveys
The Lyman-Alpha Forest, a series of hydrogen absorption lines observed in high-redshift QSO spectra, serves as a crucial observational probe of the IGM. Measurements of the 1D power spectrum of the Lyman-Alpha transmitted flux (P_Lyα) provide valuable insights into the thermal and ionization history of the IGM, while constraining cosmological and astrophysical parameters.
To assess the capabilities and precision of P_Lyα measurements across various spectroscopic surveys, we have developed a comprehensive pipeline for generating mock datasets. This pipeline accounts for key observational and astrophysical effects, including spectral resolution, instrumental noise, contamination from metal lines, high-column-density systems, continuum misplacement, and their associated systematics.
In this talk, I will present two of my ongoing projects based on applications of these mocks. The first explores the use of WEAVE-QSO to detect signatures of the patchy reionization. The second focuses on refining models for the power spectrum of metal absorption lines, such as Si II and Si III, which are correlated with Lyman-Alpha absorption.
Thanks,
Mikey
