[Astro] [CAPT] IMPORTANT: Full day network outage, Cripps North Building (CAPT), Monday 3rd February

Dear all in CAPT,

Further to yesterday's email regarding the network outage on Monday 3rd February, I have booked out B17 in the main Physics building for the entire day in case colleagues need to have a physical space on campus to work, and hold online or in person meetings.  In order to keep this space relatively quiet/useful for the intended purpose, the preference still remains for colleagues to work from home wherever possible please.

If colleagues require a more private space for meetings, I also have two office spaces available on request.  The CAPT kitchen, plus the kitchen in C10 will naturally still be operational for food and beverage requirements.

I hope this helps with issues that some colleagues have raised; once again, please do let me know if you have any specific concerns.

Dear CAPT colleagues,

I hope this finds you well.  As part of the University Next Generation Network (NGN) update across all of our campuses, the wired network switches and WiFi systems within buildings are being upgraded throughout the first half of 2025 to offer far faster connections and enhanced reliability/security amongst other benefits.

In order for CAPT to benefit from this, unfortunately a full day shutdown of all network connections has to take place on Monday 3rd February.  I have liaised with Alfonso in selecting this date, as he indicated that working from home is more common/possible that day.

Please note that the following systems will be completely unavailable throughout the day:

  *
Wired Ethernet connectivity
  *
WiFi connections
  *
Network printers
  *
All telephony
  *
The lift, as the emergency telephone may also be affected

Reminder: Upcoming Network Migration – Cripps North Building

This is a reminder that the Next Generation Network project will soon begin network switch migrations with a planned network outage for the Cripps North Building scheduled for:

Monday 3 February from 8.30am to 7pm.

During this time, there will be no access to wired or wireless network connections in the building. CGI will work to restore connectivity promptly once maintenance is complete.

Please cascade this information to building users to ensure everyone is prepared for the temporary downtime.

Only university-managed devices will be tested at this time, so school-owned devices will need to be checked by your team once connectivity is restored.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we carry out this essential upgrade.
