[Xerte] Re: mp3 files not playing in Xerte object using Firefox

I had a chat with IT/Learning Technologist colleague and we think the issue is with the output file from Blackboard - once Xerte is uploaded to Blackboard it outputs it as x-mpeg, which cannot be recognised by the player in Xerte, looking for an mp3 file in Firefox. Chrome seems to resort to audio/mpeg which is why it works there. We are going to contact Blackboard support to see if we can change the output file without any adverse effects elsewhere in the system; and I will let you know if we can get this to work. As a backup it may be worth to upload the audio files to Soundcloud and provide a link in the RLO for those browser or versions it may experience problems.

Hi

Many thanks for all your suggestions.

The OS is Windows 7 and we created the recording in Camtasia and I produced it as an mp3 so the recording should be fine - I could resave it in Audacity to make sure or record a new one to see if the issue is with the output file from Camtasia.

Thanks, I also can play the file in Firefox from http://mitchellmedia.co.uk/xot/play_103 so it seems most likely to be the server issue. I will try and talk to IT services "to check the mime type for .mp3 files, possibly changing it to audio/mpeg".

Many thanks, Alex.
