It does not allow you directly into the workspace as it has no way of knowing this is what you want.

We only support LDAP authentication, and as such only provide support for that during the install.

There is support for authentication to services in the zip itself, but as we only have LDAP here, and we assume LDAP.

So we can't know what people's intent is, and as they may install toolkits on a webserver, offering an unauthenticated option as default is incredibly dangerous.

Taken from page 2 of the installer

----------------------------------

"Xerte Online Toolkits has been build around LDAP authentication - you can however not use this is you prefer."

The PHP "LDAP" Settings - Please see PHP's own guide for more details. If you don't want to use LDAP you could write your own authentication code, or refer to the readme.txt in the main install folder on how to run an LDAP free version of the code.

Taken from page 4 of the installer

The PHP "LDAP" Settings - Please see PHP's own guide for more details. If you don't want to use LDAP you could write your own authentication code, or refer to the readme.txt in the main install folder on how to run an LDAP free version of the code.

The test of this page would also return an error because it checks for LDAP functions

The install guides have pages 13 and 14 cover the part of the process you are looking for

Page 34 of the install guides (Titled "Authentication in Xerte Online Toolkits") covers other forms of authentication.

The thing is I don't mind if it is no authentication for now. What I am asking is why does it not allow me in directly to the workspace in this case? I mean if there is no authentication?
Matthew mentioned something along those lines...
Did I install it incorrectly?

Because you might want to install authentication we don't support / you might want to set it later.

Lots of reasons.

The install guides have instructions in on how to use other authentication methods and are in the zip

Ok... that is still fine then, how would I then use the system it still asks for a login and password?
If there is no authentication why is there still the "option" to log in and which username password do I use then?

Hi,

If you've installed the beta then one of the test pages checks to see if you have ldap installed (as part of PHP).

This will happen as a warning during the install, and is mentioned as a requirement on the second and fourth pages of the installer.

If you opt for the xampp option during the install it will remove authentication from the system, and allow one individual to use the system.

Hi,

I re-installed XAMPP and xertetoolkit Beta on my p.c. and I get the following error when attempting to log in:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function ldap_connect() in C:\xampp\htdocs\xertetoolkits\website_code\php\login_library.php on line 355

Grover

Hello,

Two Options

These errors are stuff the new release will fix – so as a short term measure.

Edit config.php and put the line below before $xerte_toolkits_site

ini_set("error_reporting",0);

Or

Download the new version (beta) from http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/~cczpl/xerte/xertetoolkits.zip

Pat

The most recent one I can find is 1.7.4 and that’s the one I downloaded and installed… (as per the word doc in the zip folder from xertetoolkit download)

Sorry I forgot to add the web path I used to download in the previous mail – it is http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/xerte/
