Dear all,
This Dasysyrphus sp. from Mongolia is a bit of a riddle to me. I'm not able to identify it with the literature I have now. I have a whole series of these, they are small (5 to 8 mm), the male can be very small and dark (see pictures), the female has a very rounded abdomen with small to very small yellow or white maculae, that reach and go over the lateral margins. .These look a bit like the maculae that Dasysyrphus friuliensis has. The head is big, with a bulging face, almost... no facial stripe, and a reasonably big nose (see pictures). Antennae black. The scutum is black and shiny, no pollinose stripes, but with long white hairs. In the wings the cells bm and br are almost completely bare, and even the upper part of the anal cell is without microtrichia. Sternite 2 is yellow, but 3 and 4 are almost completely black (see picture). But there is variation in that, I also have specimens in which the sternites are transparent. So, is there anyone out there who might point me in the right direction for this one?
I have used a key now that was made by Anatolii Barkalov (2007), and I think it could eventually be Dasysyrphus shiloi. But I don't know if that is true, maybe someone has pictures or more info on this species and can confirm my ID?
Greetings,
Gerard
