Our approach to public engagement awarded a national Silver Engage Watermark!
We are delighted to have been awarded a prestigious Silver Engage Watermark by the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE). The watermark recognises the university’s commitment to involving the public in its work and the sharing of knowledge, teaching and research.

Every year, the university engages and interacts with many thousands of people and organisations, sharing knowledge and insights from our research and teaching, and working with business and civic partners to co-produce innovative solutions to the challenges faced by society.

The NCCPE (https://nottingham.us20.list-manage.com/track/click?u=27dbe2623b441ebb6de9121f2&id=808ee4e8ec&e=6a459677d8) works to build an inclusive higher education sector where communities can contribute to, and benefit from, knowledge, teaching and research, and its Silver Engage Watermark indicates that engagement runs through the fabric of the University of Nottingham.
“I am delighted that the University of Nottingham’s commitment to public engagement has won national recognition...Public engagement is at the core of our mission as a civic university and our mission as a University without borders”

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane Norman

Funding Opportunities
Green Hustle 2024 call for proposals

Following the success of Green Hustle 2023, The Institute for Policy and Engagement is excited to announce a small grants scheme (https://nottingham.us20.list-manage.com/track/click?u=27dbe2623b441ebb6de9121f2&id=47a764be54&e=6a459677d8) that allows researchers to contribute to their programme in 2024.

We are calling for proposals, for participatory research on sustainability, which directly involve urban communities in projects that have a lasting positive environmental impact. We wish to build connections, increase access to nature and help enable behaviour change.

The theme for this year’s Green Hustle is Common Ground. Projects can respond to this in a literal sense, with a focus on soil and understanding the world beneath our feet, or explore relationships and community-based decision making.

Projects must run between the start of February and end of June and include a contribution to the festival programme (weekend of 31^st May). This could be hosting a discussion, running a demonstration or workshop, showcasing an installation or creating a performance.

Funded through our Research England’s Participatory Research allocation there is a total of £15k available, which we expect will be split between three projects. The maximum amount you can apply for is £6k. Bids must be submitted no later than 5pm on Monday 15 January 2024.

Upcoming events
Black Holes and the dark Universe

Every month the University hosts a public science lecture which are open to staff, students and the general public.

Our next lecture, on Thursday 14th December, will focus on the mysteries of black holes and the dark universe. Three pioneering researchers from the University of Nottingham will explore how we can study these cosmological mysteries, even if we cannot observe them directly.

Lecture spaces are still available but please note that spaces on the ARTLab tour, the University’s experimental workspace for ArtScience research and practice, which follows the lecture are now full.
