Congratulations to our first Public Engagement Small Grants recipients
The Institute ran its first public engagement small grants scheme over the summer. Following a terrific response with some very high quality applications, we're delighted to announce the following colleagues have been successful in securing funding for their public engagement proposals:

  * Dr Lisa Chakrabarti on her work to explore the effect of exercise on health ageing
  * Hayley Cotterill, Dr Jonathan Memel and Richard Bates on their work with Florence Nightingale and inspiring new audiences in the East Midlands
  * Dr Andrew French on his work explaining artificial intelligence research to primary age children
  * Dr Tim Hutchings on his work on interfaith partnerships
  * Professor Roshan das Nair on his work with people suffering from Multiple Sclerosis in Nottinghamshire

Congratulations to all of you and we are excited to see the results of your projects.

The Institute was also able to fund 10 Kano kits for the STEM club to help them with their work with young people in Nottingham.

Nottingham Engaged 2019: Celebrate and aspire

On 17 September we held the fourth annual Nottingham Engaged conference, with around 120 of you sharing your day with us. This year's theme of 'Celebrate and Aspire' aimed to showcase some of the outstanding policy impact and public engagement that is happening across the University, and inspire you with new ideas from local and national experts.

Our plenary speakers were Institute Director Stephen Meek, who outlined his vision for policy and public engagement at UoN in the coming years, and Amanda Horton-Mastin, who drew on her experience at Comic Relief, Collider Science and Girl Effect to deliver some powerful messages on how to engage the public. A range of internal and external speakers also delivered a wide range of breakout sessions - thank you to everyone who contributed. We also announced the winners of our inaugural Policy Impact and Public Engagement Awards - see below to find out who they are.

If you weren't able to join us for the event, or if you want to revisit any of the content, we are collating all the resources from the day on workspace - a link will be in October's bulletin.

Thank you to those who attended, and if you haven't already then please do share your feedback<https://us20.mailchimp.com/mctx/click?url=https%3A%2F%2Fus20.mailchimp.com%2Fmctx%2Fclick%3Furl%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fnottingham.onlinesurveys.ac.uk%252Fnottingham-engaged-2019-celebrate-and-inspire-feedback-fo%26xid%3Dc22d073efb%26uid%3D113484114%26pool%3D%26subject%3D&xid=9a6e640ebb&uid=113484114&pool=&subject=> to help us make the day even better next year.
