Dear perimetry colleagues,

Andrew and I are looking for a postdoc to work on perimetry related issues
(see cut & paste of advert below) in a collaborative project with Paul
Artes.

If you know of any likely candidates who would have an appropriate
background and might be interested in coming to Melbourne, could you please
forward?

Either newly completing PhD students, or perhaps someone who wants to do a
second postdoc somewhere new. While the advert sounds quite computational,
a student with a background in visual psychophysics is probably preferable.

All the best

Allison

We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher to join our team at the
University of Melbourne.

*About the position*

The position is a 2 year, fixed term postdoctoral position funded by an ARC
Linkage Project Grant (*LP150100815*; *New, Efficient Tests That Map Both
Central and Peripheral Vision*), The investigator team is A/Prof Andrew
Turpin (Computing and Information Systems), Prof Allison McKendrick
(Optometry & Vision Science), Swiss-based company Haag-Streit AG, and
international partner Prof Paul Artes (Plymouth Uni, UK). This project will
devise new algorithms for testing peripheral and central vision. Current
approaches to visual field testing typically use either static targets
focused on the central 30 degrees of vision, or moving/kinetic targets for
more peripheral vision. This project aims to combine the two in a
principled and practical fashion. New algorithms will be initially tested
using computer simulation, and successful approaches will be tested in a
small group of people with visual field damage.

This project aims to advance our ability to diagnose and monitor visual
functional damage due to eye disease. The successful applicant will be
responsible for the design, and testing of a kinetic perimetry simulator
and new algorithms, gathering and presenting data from simulations and
small human trials, communicating results both in writing and orally, and
contributing to our wider research group.

The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Optometry and
Vision Sciences at the University of Melbourne.

department is available at:
