Senior Lecturer for PG Professional Development

We are one of the UK’s leading, internationally excellent educational centres, ranked first in the North West by
the Complete University Guide 2014/15. 67% of our research was rated internationally excellent or world
leading in REF2014. Our primary and secondary initial teacher education provision is
rated Ofsted ‘good’. We host a number of centres of excellence in knowledge exchange, including:
Early Years and Childhood Studies; the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination; and
STEM Education North West. Around 4,000 students study with us in Manchester and Cheshire and we work
in partnership with over 1,500 schools, colleges and other organisations.
The Postgraduate Professional Development Programme has approximately 1000 students including both
full- and part-time.
We seek experienced senior lecturers able to make a significant contribution in one or more of the following
areas: Education, Language Education, Bilingualism, Education and Society, Early Childhood Studies,
Community Development, Youth Work: Leadership and Practice; Educational Leadership; STEM Education;
Inclusive Education and SEND, Teaching and Learning, Coaching and Mentoring, Autism Spectrum
Conditions, Specific Learning Difficulties, NASENCo.
Role
You will contribute to the leadership, management, development and delivery of the Professional
Development Programme, both full- and part-time, including on-site and off-site.
You will coordinate the work of tutors teaching on the programme and manage quality assurance processes.
you will make a significant contribution in at least one of the current award areas.
Take the lead in increasing recruitment to the full-time provision and developing overseas delivery of the
programme.
You will contribute to other programmes in the faculty depending on experience and expertise.
Make a significant contribution to the work of at least one of the Faculty’s four RKE centres.

Undertake research, knowledge exchange, and other scholarly activity to contribute to the development of the
faculty of education, delivering commercial enterprise activity where appropriate.
Ideal Candidate
You will have substantial experience in teaching postgraduate Education courses.
You will have, or be close to completing, a Doctorate in Education and active in research and knowledge
exchange.
You will be an innovate self-starter able to take responsibility for projects and drive them through to
completion. You will have extensive experience in partnership working.

desirable.

audiences, both orally and in writing.

Qualifications/Certifications You will possess the required qualifications and certifications, namely:
* A doctoral level qualification in a relevant area and evidence of continuous professional
development.
* A PGCE, Certificate of Education, PGCLTHE or membership of the Higher Education
Academy (or commitment to obtain within 3 years of appointment).

Relevant Experience You will have a sustained period of experience teaching in the relevant area which should
include experience of the following:
Ï Devising innovative teaching solutions that have impacted positively on learning
Ï Applying creativity in the design of programmes
Ï Developing appropriate assessments
Ï Challenging ideas, fostering debate and encouraging students to develop skills in critical
discourse and rational thinking
Ï Supervising the work of postgraduate students, providing support and feedback
Ï Providing appropriate pastoral support
Ï Leading and managing academic courses
