FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
This is to announce the third Elementary Mathematics Education meeting – EME 08.
The meeting will be held at Colégio D. Diogo de Sousa, Braga, Portugal, from November 29 to December 1, 2008.

The themes of this years’ conference are:
· Mathematical knowledge;
· (Mathematical) teacher education; and
· Patterns

Reading the patterns in data: informal statistical reasoning - Janet Ainley
Learning to "notice" the mathematics teaching. Adopting sociocultural perspectives about teacher learning - Salvador Llinares
Learning and teaching geometry in compulsory education and in elementary teacher formation - Bernard Parzysz
Mathematical Knowledge, Teacher Education and Professional Development - Dina Tirosh and Pessia Tsamir
Call for proposals
If you wish to make an oral presentation, present a poster or organize a workshop, please send a proposal of no more than 250 words indicating clearly:
· Name and institution;
· Email address;
· Title of the paper or workshop;
· Contribution format (oral presentation, poster or workshop)
· Abstract.
Proposals must be submitted at http://www.eme08.com
The official languages of the meeting will be English and Portuguese.
Deadlines
September 14, 2008: Abstract submission deadline.
October 4, 2008: Notification of acceptance of papers for presentation at the meeting.
October 19, 2008: Registration deadline.
Registration
Registration fee:
Participants: 100€
Students: 80€
AEME associates: 80€
The fee includes:
· All meeting documents;
· Meeting bag and badge;
· An evening welcome reception on Saturday;
· Meeting dinner on Sunday.
