PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY

Colleagues,

A competitive full-time studentship within the Mathematics &
Computing faculty has come up, with a starting date of Jan 2004. A
well-qualified candidate in mathematics Education could have a good
chance of success.

A successful candidate is likely to have a good first degree and
preferably a masters degree involving research methods, and some
experience of teaching.

An interest in researching topics such as

* The role of generalisation and creativity in teaching/learning mathematics

* Balancing the education of awareness and the training of behaviour
in teaching/learning mathematics

would be an advantage, but any topic relevant to our interests would
be welcome (see http://mcs.open.ac.uk/cme/).

A successful candidate will be expected to spend an average of at
least 2 days a week in Milton Keynes.

For more information please contact John Mason (j.h.mason@open.ac.uk) .

If you do intend to apply, please inform John Mason so that wheels
can be set in motion.

Closing Date: not known as yet, but sooner rather than later!
Decision will probably be made in early November!!!

JohnM
