John Hayter

Lecturer Post in Mathematics Education in the Department of

Educational Studies at the University of the West Indies (UWI) at

Mona, Kingston, Jamaica from August 2002.

The post will involve teaching at undergraduate level (BEd and BSc)

and at graduate level (Diploma - equivalent to PGCE and MEd). A
new

Science and Mathematics Education Centre has been opened
providing a

base for work within the University and beyond. The use of
technology

is encouraged throughout UWI and the department is well equipped
with

computers. The University has significant and expanding Distance

Education progammes for the benefit of students throughout the
English

speaking Caribbean.

There is a challenging and worthwhile job to be done in a country

where performance in mathematics is a matter of national concern.

There is scope for research and an urgent need for more local

publications in mathematics education.

There are currently two mathematics educators in the Department.
The

advertised post becomes vacant this summer on the departure of
John

Hayter who has worked at UWI for over four years, following 22
years

in the School of Education at Bristol University. He will be happy to

communicate with anyone interested in applying for the post

jhayter@uwimona.edu.jm

Further details about the university and the post are available on the

UWI website and from the Head of Department Dr Zellynne Jennings
