Thankyou
We have now uploaded the video to YouTube so will embed the code into Xerte.
Thanks to you all for your help and support. I have asked our IT person to change those sizes anyway Ron in case we encounter this again but this particular large video is for the project. Normally I would suggest smaller bite sized ones but it is a one off!!!
Thanks again
Julie

Ok so just to be clear this isn't really a Xerte specific issue - there are server wide settings that would have similar impact on any application if the limits are lower than the total file size you are trying to work with. By coincidence I was supporting another project last week where a 300MB + video was failing to upload and worked after we increased the relevant php values.
Your server admin should be able to resolve this for you e.g.
post_max_size = 700M
upload_max_filesize = 500M
memory_limit = 256M
If you don't have your own streaming server then the easiest solution is to upload to a service like YouTube or Vimeo and then copy the embed code and add that to just about any page in xerte. That would mean that anyone viewing an offline copy would need online access to see the video but that's more likely than someone having the bandwidth to view a 300MB video direct without streaming. Again that's not xerte specific just a fact that streaming services will typically automatically detect the bandwidth and devices in use and alter the quality accordingly.

Hi
The mp4 is actually huge its 294mb. The project size in middle column is displaying 112 mb currently.
I deleted the wmv but still cannot add the mp4.
Can you suggest an alternative form of upload within Xerte to perhaps stream it then Ron?
Thanks

What's the file size of each of those files?
In the workspace with the project selected what does the middle column report as the project size?
If the wmv is playing when you view the LO it's probably playing via a local browser plugin and not the built-in xerte player.
The xerte player will only play .mp4 (or .flv if using the Flash engine option). Other video formats should not really be uploaded direct to Xerte and rather embedded from a streaming service. Generally this is better anyway e.g. streaming rather than downloading.
Even if your file upload limit is set higher than the individual file size when you are exporting it's the total project file size that you need to take account of and the server resources and server memory_limit setting can also have an effect on the ability to export or not.
Is the LO public that we can view?

Yes that is the file in question but for some reason the .wmv version of it loaded ok but it is the MP4 quicktime file that is giving the JSON error which we want to use. I can try deleting the wmv and uploading the mp4 again if you like to see if that works but I am sure we tried that first?

The images are not in the media folder on our web server, not sure how that happened as you have to use the upload image part in Xerte, but anyway – hopefully a simple fix but nice talking to you all again!!

Is this for learning futures?
If the "external parties" upload to their own vle's etc the LO's should work fine.
If they extract and view locally that should also work fine in most browser or in IE if they click to allow blocked content. There isn't any way to avoid that prompt in IE when vieing offline.

Upgrading is the best option for most organisations. Exporting and importing into a new install isn't practical or necessary for organisational installations with lots of existing LO's. Just follow the upgrade instructions and obviously back-up first then test before restoring access to everyone.
As Julian says very few issues with existing projects especially if already version 2.1.

Yes, LO's made in XoT 2.x are 1 on 1 compatible with LO's in XoT 3.0
You just need to export the LO's as zip and import the zips in XoT 3.0
I have used this on a new server. The old server had XoT 2.0 installed. The new server has XoT 3.0 installed.
However, I have not tested an udate from XoT 2.x to XoT 3.0 on the same server. Maybe Tom can respond on that?
