Haven't seen Emily's mail from 16:01 yet,
Emily it should work as I typed it (in XOT 2.0, using the
Javascript/HTML5 engine only):
So the formula between back-ticks: `Re=(rho*nu*d)/eta`
The back-ticks let MathJax know that this is an AsciiMath formula.
I think I also solved your original issue with the removed '\'. But I
still need to do some testing.
