Did you place the actual zip file there or thwarting PHP file within the zip, overwriting the save.PHP that is there already?

The new file should strip out the marks when you press play... It does on my install?!?

Thanks John

I have uploaded the zip file. I am still unable to preview it but when I go into edit the LO I can see the symbols you were referring to. Until there is a fix to stop this code being imported (from web pages apparently) I'll get the team to use their own words or use notepad to clean any copy and pasting.

Thanks for providing an answer to this.

Regards

Jason

I've also patched a file to remove the offending character during edit... unzip and place the attached file here: \modules\xerte\engine within your xerte folder.

Once you have done this, It would be great if you could confirm the correct behaviour:

MAKE AN ARCHIVE ZIP FIRST - Properties -> Export tab -> Get archive Zip.

Try to play/preview offending LO that doesn't work Edit the LO and press the "Play" button. The learning object should now work.
If YES then you can go ahead and press Publish to make that version live

Hi Jason,

Ok, I have solved the problem. There are 25x [] (that is [ and ] together to illustrate a box - not the actual character!!). Now i'm not sure where they came from and I can't even paste them in this email because they are not valid characters but they could have come from whatever the questions were copied+pasted from... UPDATE Have now discovered that they are ASCII code 1 and that there are also numerous ASCII code 147 and 148 in there which are the opening and closing "" that Word uses... they don't seem to be causing any problem though...

If you go to this question:

Do you Regularly take work... (about Q10)

And then go to the first option - you will see that the text "“If I managed my time..." has 1 or 2x SPACES in front of it... wel they are not spaces, this is where the bogus character is...

I will send you a working preview.xml file and you need to copy to a particular folder on your server (I will tell you where off list).

We will work on a way of detecting these characters and preventing/ignoring them in future...

I have been through the questions and each is set to ‘false’ or ‘true’. I will ask where the info came from & whether it was a Word document, would this have an impact? I know that she has used html to underline or make bold certain text.

Thanks

It sounds like some bad markup in one of the questions somewhere. There’s no limits or anything like that. Do you cut and paste from Word?

Subject: [Xerte] Quiz in xerte 2.0 question

Hello

One of my team has designed a large LO and an equally large quiz in xerte 2.0, she has used the html5 LO type, selected Quiz under Interactivity and added 27 questions. The feedback is in-depth with a number of paragraphs providing students feedback to some questions.

When we go to preview the LO, the screen remains white and nothing uploads. When we removed the quiz the LO loaded and was viewable. We duplicated the LO and added a new quiz, copy and pasting the first 2 questions and the LO loaded successfully. Having spent a number of hours working on her LO my colleague would like to know what is stopping the LO with 27 questions displaying? Has this been documented or asked before? Is there a question limit? Is there a word count limit with feedback?

Many thanks
