Hi,
I know you are in a bit of a predicament and would be interested in hearing about the problems that you have run into (and finding out how I can help get you out of them).
I know that you have made "customisations" and that these are now causing some problems. Knowing what changes you have had to make could help us develop the idea of only using plugins to make these changes which means that the core files can always be updated (we even have thoughts on an auto-updating routine)...

Hello John:
Thanks for the notes...this sounds excellent...I'm anxious to get toolkits updated and hopefully I can contribute in some modest way to a menu structure or otherwise in the future.

Not ideal Ron i agree and what you suggest sounds fantastic. That's the beauty of XOT though that it is extensible and is due to become even more flexible for customization...
We are but a small team though and cannot take on every suggestion that is thrown at us, even if we wanted to, so we would welcome any assistance in developing XOT...
The problem you have run into recently (and you are probably not alone) appears to be due to core code changes, something that we are trying to prevent the need for in the future. Did you know for example that we now have Wordpress style plungins working in v2 as a proof of concept that can hook/filter around 15 hook points throughout the core code to augment/change things without altering any core code? This appears to be something that would help you futureproof your upgrade path.

This is workable as a menu John but in my opinion not optimum. The user cannot see more than one part at a time and doesn't know what's been done - better in my opinion that the menu show all parts with checkmarks if completed and at least one selection of modules (also checked if completed). I'm still a long way from getting into html5 toolkits but that's the type of menu I'll be angling toward one way or another.

Hi Kathryn
Would something like this work for you? - this may be what Dave was referring to when he used the highly technical term jigger ;-)
I could talk you through the stages of setting one of these up...

Hi Dave,
Thank you for your email. Please forgive my ignorance, I am not well versed in coding and would not know how to build a custom interface. Are there any tutorials or anyone you could recommend to contact, to help with me this?
Thank you.
Kind Regards,
Kathryn

Hi Kathryn,
AFAIK, unfortunately the standard menu would not support that type of functionality.
You would need to build a custom interface. (and take into account that the HTML5 version would also need to be customized).
There may be a way to jigger the Accordion style menu.
Take a look at that.
Dave

Hi Dave,
Thank you for your quick reply. I think a TreeView type menu sounds like what I may mean, would it be possible to have this within the table of contents and do you know how I may go about this? I am using Xerte 2.0 Online Tool-kits.
Thank you.
Kind Regards,
Kathryn

I think she might be meaning a TreeView type menu.
I know it can be done in Xerte desktop (as a component).
XOT?

I would like to know if there was a way to display the main headings on the contents page that could be further clicked to reveal associated subheadings, please see attached for further clarification. I have tried to use multiple perspectives but have been limited as can only upload videos as flv or wmv file types, so am using YouTube to display videos. I have also considered tabbed navigator, but as far as I am aware that only allows one type of media to be uploaded and my e-tutorial covers multiple media types under on heading.
