By heart, I would only expect removing and adding a user will only  
work if there is a difference in user id somehow between the windows  
user and the linux user.

With respect to permissions, please make sure that the  
<xot>/USER_FILES tree is owned by the Linux user that runs the  
webserver process. For me (using a SuSE distrobution) that is  
wwwrun.www, but it really depends on the specific distribution.
