[Xerte] Re: Accessible media player?

I usually recommend that if including YouTube content then wherever possible
use the dedicated YouTube pages rather than embedding in other page types.
largely because I have seen/known problems in the past with the embedded
clip in another page types hiding the whole interface and preventing further
navigation. That only seemed to happen in IE and the non-youtube page types
but varied by version and pc etc. For example your XOT LO and the bootstrap
LO all work fine for me with IE10 e.g. can tab and play via keyboard and
don't get the problem with unintended full screen.
I don't have time to test with all browsers right now but I think the only
reliable guidance for end users really is to try a different browser if the
one you are using has problems. There are so many variables here that to
list every conceivable combination of browsers, version, page types etc
would be too confusing a list. More importantly so variable as to be
un-reliable.

That's helpful. Where I've been finding the problems is when we've embedded
a YouTube video in a range of XOT or Bootstrap page types using the YouTube
embed code. For example in this Construction LO (Bootstrap template) there
are three videos: http://vle.jisctechdis.ac.uk/xerte/play_466
Or in XOT, the many video examples on the slides here
http://vle.jisctechdis.ac.uk/xot/play.php?template_id=254#item1
Am I right in thinking that when you embed a video using the default YouTube
embed code it embeds an inaccessible YouTube player rather than the native
accessible player that Xerte uses - for example in the page you demoed
below?
Is there anything I could add to accessibility guidance to make a
difference?

Testing it myself, it works fine, example here:

It's the youtube player. Does it work on the youtube site?

Hi everybody,
I had this query come into the community site recently. It seems that the
player for embedded YouTube clips is not accessible without using a mouse.
Is there anything that we can improve this within the Xerte toolkits or is
it a YouTube issue?
This is the query I had. Any light you can shed on it would be very welcome
On an embedded YouTube clip we couldn't focus on the play button. To get
around this, could we set the YouTube to autoplay on load? I can't get
'?autoplay=1' to work within Xerte (I'm also aware that I've read about this
recently but can't find it or remember the outcome.)
