[Xerte] post-install without LDAP and nothing happens

Hi,

I have installed Xerte on a server (not using XAMMP). After a lot of fiddling I have installed it without the LDAP stuff. This was only after reading a whole of heap of other people's problems. There are some major problems with the way that you have written the non-XAMMP installation instructions and I would wonder if you need to automate the choice of LDAP versus non-LDAP. Doing it by hand is a pain. I finally decided to just use the demo.php and see whether it would work. 

I get to the index page fine. But, if I try to create a new learning object the new file appears in the My Projects list but does not respond to mouse clicks. The buttons (Edit, Preview, Delete, Duplicate, Publish) are all greyed and do not respond.

Any ideas what is going on here?
