Are you selecting the parent folder when zipping on the contents of the
folder? Your learningobject.rlt and associated files needs to be inside the
root of the zip not inside a folder e.g. you need

\learningobject.rlt
not 
\Making_multimedia_interactive_with_Xerte\learningobject.rlt

Julian sent me the one he used (thanks Julian); it imports fine on our XOT
install, think it may therefore be something to do with zipping software I'm
using rather than our XOT install...
