[Xerte] Page Templates (desktop) - Problems with PageNumbers

I'm creating an Xerte object using Desktop Xerte so that I can include some custom design pages etc. I'm using some of the page templates that include frameworks etc (e.g. tabs etc) as well.
I'm manually creating a 'Menu' page to go at front of the object after the title screen.
The page consist simply of an interaction and series of buttons and associated scripts in the form
rootIcon.gotoPage('7');
The buttons function correctly (taking into account counting from zero) however when the pages load - their page counter shows "71 of 10" pages instead of "8 of 10 pages" ...
rootIcon.gotoPage('4'); gives rise to "41 of 10"
rootIcon.gotoPage('5'); gives rise to "51 of 10"
rootIcon.gotoPage('6'); gives rise to "61 of 10"
etc.
These incorrect page numbering only happen when routed through my menu page and not when progressing sequencially or through the TOC.
Any suggestions would be great - also I can't seem to get the " rootIcon.navigate('target');" function to work at all.
Kind Regards,
Pete
