[Xerte] Newbie question: how to add users?

I installed XOT succesfully on my computer (using MAMP) but I cannot figure out how to add users and get access tot the authoring environment. If I go to management the tab 'users' is empty and I see no way of adding users.
Contrary to installations like http://www.techdisplayxerte.info/ there is no 'create new account' or 'password forgotten?' link in the login box.

Please help.
