Aye, and there's the rub.
There's only so much real estate to play with.

How much feedback do you allow?
More feedback = less target area = fewer draggable objects.

Or do you turn the green/red ticks/crosses into clickable objects?
e.g. "If you want the feedback, click on the tick/cross to see it."

Or how about tooltip type things.
The only instruction needed is a hardcoded "Roll over the ticks/crosses for feedback".

etc etc.

"so much feedback and so few pixels..."

Hi Jonathan,

I am working with young users who need lots of encouragement and I would like to add feedback on completion of Drag and Drop Labelling.  I have been looking at the main interaction>show feedback icons in Gapfill, but the task is beyond me.  Would it be possible to do this?  

I am loving working with Page Wizards by the way.
