Architecturally, I would think it better to have single templates that can be transformed via .xslt or some other middleware to suit the target.

The development of that transform would be the key.

In terms of commercial content from publishers, ePub (an xml based developer friendly format) is solidly embedded in Europe, US and growing in Asia so Xerte being able to output the XML to different devices is exactly parallel to the commercial trends in big publishing houses.  When I have Xerte fantasies I think of tutors having XOT templates which can be filtered by operating system so as an author you click a drop down list on XOT to select “Android” or “PC” or “iPhone” etc and a set of templates appears that will run on that particular operating system. One viable route would be Xerte method.....
I mean..., RLO is basically an XML structure and have different apps on the different platforms to interpret and run them....

Rationale:
Using standards, the non-flash supoort on iOS sucks, because in my opinion that only leaves HTML5, which isn't mature enough (in my humble opinion).

So, for the time being, that implies dedicated players interpreting same 'documents'....

But I would be very interested in other solutions!
