tempNode.childNodes[2].childNodes[0].nodeValue.split('~bull~').join(String.fromCharCode(8226))
will be marginally quicker, but that's going to be really fast anyway, even for hundreds of bullets.

Another thought:
tempNode.childNodes[2].childNodes[0].nodeValue = replace (unitDataList[iconindex].PAGE[i].MEMO1, '~BULL~', String.fromCharCode(8226));
And insert ~BULL~ in your xml where you want the bullet. Might slow things down when the xml is being parsed.

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Think that was the char I was looking to replace originally.

Try entering ASCII char 7 in the xml file. Alt+7 (numeric pad) gives *
Might work. Shouldn't break anything.
Also String.fromCharCode(8226) produces the bullet glyph, but I'm not sure how you would get that into the xml.

Had tried that and got the literal.
It's being pulled out of an xml table and set via:
tempNode.childNodes[2].childNodes[0].nodeValue = unitDataList[iconindex].PAGE[i].MEMO1;
I don't know if eval would do it, or it would but break other stuff.

Any other way than <li> to represent a bullet?
