You need to swap depths on the pages, not the items: swapDepths needs a common parent. You are swapping the item's layer on its parent clip.

Works now, so I'm guessing I inadvertently fixed something with all my remming/unremming of code

Can I swap the item being dragged above the others?

debug says they are all at depth 1

blah.swapDepth(2)

says it is now at 2, but it remains below the subsequent <DIS>'s

I'll bet you a jam sandwich that the xml nodes were being duplicated properly, but the icons were failing to instantiate when the xml was then parsed,

Removed a couple id's from dec icons and it works now.
Did a search and those id's were single instances.
I wasn't using them for reference anyway, it's all done with icon. etc.
