[Xerte] RE: localhost/xertetoolkits returns index

Well, it was just my experience.
After 30 gyrations and no joy, I cleaned the server and reinstalled *following the instructions word for word* and up she went.
I could be wrong, but I think something gets written on initial install, and if you don't delete or set that flag or whatever it is back, it becomes a bit of a dogs nest.
Why the bias against re-installing?
Personal affront?
;-)

When I was installing I found that if you had an install blow up it was best to
delete *everything* off the server and start clean.

That makes sense, all seems well
with the set up. I have created a new learning object, but when I come to edit
it I get the following message:
Warning:
copy(USER-FILES/1-guest-Nottingham/data.xml) [function.copy]:
failed to open stream: No such file or directory in J:\xampp\htdocs\xertetoolkits\modules\xerte\edit.php
on line 44
Warning: chmod() [function.chmod]: No
such file or directory in J:\xampp\htdocs\xertetoolkits\modules\xerte\edit.php
on line 46
I can see the edit.php in the modules\xerte
folder. Any ideas why it will not run?

I have played around with getting
toolkits up and running in a variety of ways, some with more success than
others. I have nearly completed a Full Install (as I have put Moodle on the
same MySql), but the last part of the instructions says:
1)
Go to the root folder of your site
2)
Rename index.php to be index.old
3)
Rename demo.php to be index.php
There
is no demo.php in the toolkits folder, only a demo txt file. How / where can I
find the file I need?
Thanks

Thanks for the responses.
I have stopped and started Apache and MySql a
couple of times to test if they were the problem, but that did not fix the issue.
I do not have a an Index.php file, only an
Index.txt file in the directory. I will try unzipping and re-loading Toolkits
again in case I have not got all the files I need.

Hi Ian
It sounds like XAMPP is
displaying the contents of the web directory rather than showing a default
page.
Try visiting http://localhost/xertetoolkits/index.php
which should take you to the home page of the interface.
Hope that helps
Kind regards

Hi
I have just started to investigate Xerte and
successfully installed xampp and Xerte Toolkits on a (Windows XP) PC. After the
installation I was able to run Toolkits from http://localhost/xertetoolkits/ and
create an effective learning resource.
Since trying to launch Toolkits, again using
the URL above, I simply get the Index of files for Toolkits and not the
Toolkits interface.
Could anyone help me with this problem and
explain how I can return to the Toolkits interface?
Thanks
