Thanks so far. You're right, I found the setup business and thought I'd done it all, but was getting lots of errors along the way and ended up with:
Warning: mysql_select_db() [function.mysql-select-db]: Access denied for user 'englisl5'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /home2/englisl5/public_html/xerte/config.php on line 34
Warning: mysql_select_db() [function.mysql-select-db]: A link to the server could not be established in /home2/englisl5/public_html/xerte/config.php on line 34
Had problems with the phpinfo page stuff which is referred to earlier because when I opened that up it is blank, so could not find the config path that you talk about in the instructions.
??? More tips?

It's hard to tell how far you've got in the process. The options are
1) You've not started the install and you need to point your web browser at the folder called setup and start the process there.
By the look of the error messages, you need to point your browser at http://your_url/setup/ then you should see the screens that are in the installation guide.
2) You didn't set the root folder of the install to be writable to so the database.php file wasn't created.
If 2 is the case, you might find a file in the setup folder called database.php, which might be the one you need to use, but check the contents of the file are the ones you entered.
Hope this helps

Subject: [Xerte] Uploading xerte to a server
Hi,
I really like xerte when I looked at in the sandpit. I have a webspace, where I host a wordpress blog and a moodle course. I am no expert, but I can, generally speaking, upload things like this to my webserver and make use of them. I am trying to do this with xerte but cannot - does it work in the same way as these other things? The instructions are very difficult to follow. I have been trying to follow Pat Lockley's installation guidelines, but cannot really understand them. So far I get this message after installation on the webpage:
Warning: include(database.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home2/englisl5/public_html/xerte/config.php on line 30
Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening 'database.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib64/php:/usr/lib/php') in /home2/englisl5/public_html/xerte/config.php on line 30
Warning: mysql_select_db() [function.mysql-select-db]: Access denied for user 'englisl5'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /home2/englisl5/public_html/xerte/config.php on line 34
Warning: mysql_select_db() [function.mysql-select-db]: A link to the server could not be established in /home2/englisl5/public_html/xerte/config.php on line 3
Any tips?
Thanks for a great tool.
