[Xerte] xpert RSS feeds

I did wonder about that Adam but also a slightly lower tech way to use the
same system to share your Producer Lo's might be an option - what about
this...

Your colleague creates a basic one page LO in your toolkits installation
perhaps using the Text > Orientation page and that page also contains a link
to the real external LO. Let's refer to this as the launcher LO.

You then have an easy way for you colleague to share the links and resources
using a system which already has the correct format feed and one that you
can manage via management.php

Ease of use all round and an easy to edit description page to launch the
real LO. Perhaps even add a quiz to the launcher so that when the learner
has finished the external resources there is some self-checking of
understanding.

Just an idea.

I hadn't looked at the Syndication feature Ron so thanks for this. This will
be good for staff creating XOTs to publish materials quickly to Xpert. Some
of the materials my colleague wants to share are Producer RLOs living
externally so this isn't an option in that case.

Cheers

Adam/Pat

I can't helping thinking that even if you're aware of this Adam or if I'm
wrong this needs pointing out for those who don't so here goes...

The easiest way to share LO's from a toolkits installation with xpert or as
part of more local collaboration is to use the functionality built-in to the
toolkits installation! This is summarised in the part 2 guide available via
http://techdis.ac.uk/getxerte

Any user has the option of ticking checkboxes to share for viewing and/or
share for downloading as zip and scorm too and this is per LO so some you
can share and some you can choose not to. The basic info needed and
categories etc are quick to add for the user and can be customised via
management.php.

So even if as Pat says not all xpert content is Xerte content it seems to me
a no brainer to use the functionality withing toolkits to share the xerte
LO's and submit a different feed for non-xerte LO's.

So Adam if this is what you're thinking then your syndicated feed is
http://elearning.net.marjon.ac.uk/rlo/syndicate.php submit that to xpert and
refer to the above guide as to how to share LO's and your done!

So was that what you were looking to do or have I missed something L

Yes but I want my colleague to easily create and manage to the feed. I don't
think editing the xml locally by hand (e.g. in notepad) and then uploading
to a web server is ideal.

It would be good if we could add more metadata (e.g author etc) to the XOT
RSS feed online?

It's a valid RSS feed, so it'll be fine, it's just you're displaying less
metadata than a fatter RSS DCMI feed would.

I've had a crack at using XOT to create the feed. I'm hoping this is
something a colleague can manage so if he can use XOT that's the best way.

Is this feed ok for Xpert?

If so I'll show my colleague how to create a full one.

Nah, there is an xpert forum though.

j/k

You can either - send me a nice RSS feed, or, if you are feeling swish, take
the basic RSS feed and all dublin core extra metadata to it.

http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/toolkits/syndication/ this is a nice DCMI feed
example

You can make a normal RSS feed using your toolkits install

You can give us as much or as little information as you'd like.

Hiho all

Have just had a chat with colleague about submitting some RLOs to the Xpert
database. We notice it requires a feed. Have you got a suggested schema of
information you need the feed to deliver?

Is there a Xpert list I should be sending this to?!

cheers

Adam
