[Xerte] ANN: Forum

How about a sub-forum for AS code snippets? I'm a coder (PHP mostly),
but I often struggle with AS, mostly because I find Adobe's
documentation difficult to navigate. Seems like you have to know what
class some method is in before you can drill down and find it to get the
syntax.
I've got some script that creates an array with HTML entities as the
index and the Unicode equivalents as the value, so I don't have to look
up the Unicode, I just need to remember the HTML entity name (like
®, –, etc.). It's come in very handy for me, and I would be
happy to share it.
I'm sure there are others out there who would benefit from the
experience of seasoned AS coders.

we need to define more what the forums are for and what the list is for.
For my money the forums make more sense for a more reflective
discussion, with threads filling out over time:
'let's ruminate for a while on this intellectual issue...'
'sure, pass the port...'
The list is much more instant:
'what's up?'
'well, this...'
'...ok. do that'
'thanks'
I think the forums are also a useful place to capture some definitive
information - it can be hard on the list to make sense of the conclusion
after a lengthy thread - unless you've been direcctly involved. We need
to make all that info more easily accessible, and avoid answering the
same problems several times.
I think the current discussion on pedagogical patterns might be better
suited to the forum - let's try it there. I have a dev wiki set up as
well, so people can contribute patterns:
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/~cczjrt/wiki and we can refine the ideas.
Would people interested in that project please make themselves known? I
think it has a lot of potential.

I see Jules signed up, so you are safe to post questions there now ;-)
But seriously, we will also need other people to chime in and help out.

Hi mark,
There is so much good stuff going on this list that I just cannot save.
If we were all on the new FORUM, life for us newbies it would be so much
easier. WE DONT VWANT TO OVER LOAD YOU GUYS WITH SIMPLE PROBLEM. In time
the forum would become like the Moodle Forum/ help files a real power
for all users alike. So this is a plea from a new Xerte user to the
creators......... lets make the new forum work.......Please, Please,
Please
Cheers
John

In response to wishes expressed on this list I have set up a new Xerte
forum for the community's use.
http://forum.xerte.net/
This is intended to complement this list and by no means replace it.
The idea is that threads would be more obvious and searching for common
issues easier. Common problems will effectively become archived in an
easier to search environment and hopefully reduce the number of repeat
requests for common issues.
If the community likes it, it will stay, if not, I'll kill it.
I set up a number of categories so far with sub forums. Suggestions
for improving the structure are welcome.
