[Xerte] Xerte on iPhone

It strikes me as doable with those, quick time has support for both. I
wonder if you can get js events of it.

Have you got a XOT at marjan?

My PHP is a bit rusty but not bad on the Javascript front.

RE Video Playback

I'm not an iPhone guru so could be wrong in thinking that Flash is
currently not support (although it could be soon?) but embedded
QuickTime videos should work. I think I read somewhere that streaming
content won't work in the Safari browser. Not sure about MP4 content
either.

RE Sound Playback

I guess MP3 would be the best format to use. Again flash limitations
prevent use of free players like Flowplayer. I'd imagine Quicktime again
is the only option.

Hello,

Page 1 is easy peasy

Page 2 is awkward format wise - does FLV work on the iphone - guessing
not - quicktime? Formats? Streamed? Not streamed?

Page 3 isn't hard, I have an idea in my brain how to code it already.

Page 4 as above.

The issues are

Video playback - formats - players, does it have to be inline - can it
be a link

Sound playback - formats - player?

You know much PHP / javascript?

Pat

Hi Pat

Most of the RLOs my colleagues have developed have been along the lines
of:

Page1: Block of text, some images, hyperlinks

Page 2: A video

Page 3: a narrated audio track with synchronized images.

Page 4: a mini quiz with feedback

They will be looking to build in quizzes with conditional scripting in
the future though.

I guess the main need would be Xerte's ability to style to fit the
iphone display and provide an alternative to the flash videos / audio
and image slideshow.

Hello,

Desktop non-templated (such good English) RLOs are probably a no go for
a while (though cs5 does allow for iphone app creation so that might
offer something) because of the flash limitation.

However, we have 1 template at Nottingham using XOT which goes off to
generate HTML via a PHP script and so could make a web based template
using the Online Toolkits to create iphone stuff for viewing with
Safari.

What sort of interactions would you want it to do?

Hi

We have a number of staff at our institution already developing RLOs
using Xerte and they've asked me about iPhone support.

What's the situation with Xerte Objects on iPhone/Touch? I imagine
browser viewing is fairly limited, especially with Flash limitations?

Are there any plans to introduce iPhone/Touch templates or developing
options? It'd be great to have a publish as SCORM and publish this as
something that will play in the iPhone browser.

Thanks

Adam
