I tried Free Riva FLV Encoder 2.0 (freeware) once and it works quite fine,
but perhaps it doesn't have the image quality the professional tools have:

You need to convert them to .flv format. Google for .flv cnverters and
you’ll find a few good pieces of software to do this. If you have Flash,
it includes tools to do this also.
Can anyone recommend a really good .avi / .mpg to .flv converter? I tend
to use Flash, so haven’t needed to find my own,
J

Dear Julian
I have got some movies from Sony DVD camcorder. They are in MPEG format.
Flash does not seem to import them. Is there any way of opening them in
Xerte?

Here are some good examples of Xerte content, both custom content and the
default interface.
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/toolkits/play_560
Shows all of the page types you can create with the pageTemplates Xerte
template. If your technical skills are low, or you don’t write any code,
this is a good example of the sort of content you can quite easily create.
Here is an example of real-life content created with toolkits by
non-technical people
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/toolkits/play_264
This is a good example of a toolkits project, extended with cutom flash
movies to add in additional functionality not available in the template
directly
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/toolkits/play_508
This example uses the default interface, but custmises it a little bit:

This is template that uses a custom interface
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/toolkits/play_244
This is a project using a custom swf to control it:
These are completely custom projects, from the ground up, that show quite
well what Xerte is capable of:

The property is .controller – that’s the loaded swf. You need to make sure
that it’s loaded before you can address it’s properties,

Subject: [Xerte] How to address contents in the rootIcon
Hi List,
I'm quite new to Xerte and try to create my first project using a custom
made interface. The layout of the interface uses two different boxed to
organize the content. Each box is a movieclip on the main timeline of the
interface.swf file. I want to change the width of these boxes using
scripts in Xerte. So I tried rootIcon.box1._width = 400 and
rootIcon.clip.box1._width = 400 and even rootIcon.swf.box1._width = 400 -
no luck. I couldn't find a hint in the Xerte help ... can you help me?
By the way: are there any complex learning objects out there that use
custom made interfaces, combinations of built in functionalities and
externally loaded flash files, etc. to learn from?
Thanks,
Peter
