[Xerte] Linux, Mac OS X platforms

We're going to do just that in fact, and will host the files on the
Xerte site in a developers area, and will spend some time this year
developing the community aspects of Xerte, through a series of face to
face sessions, and possibly training or even a Xerte conference, if
there is sufficient appetite for it.

Perhaps a central repository for people to share their Xerte
resources (models, commands, templates, etc) would be a good starting
point, testing the water for if there is the appetite and support for
going open source or not. Or even a Wiki would be a good start?

As I said, we're not against open source.

I thought Ed:IT launching on 10th March (School of Ed and
Learning Team Nottingham) were open source having produced tools for
Moodle - the audio recorder for example and various other tools are
contributing to Moodle development. Seems to me that you do a lot to
support open source already.

No plans for Mac / Linux at the moment, I'm afraid. However, the
file format is open, and anyone can make their own editor for whatever
platform they like.
When I've done open source projects in the past, I have found it
to be a one way street. The promised legions of developers who would
turn up and freely give of their time to improve the code, fix all the
bugs and write the documentation never appeared. We have an open mind
about open source - we're not against it, but supporting an open source
project would require a significant investment of our time, which we
don't have right now.

Wondering if there are any active efforts to port this
to Linux, Mac OS X?
Also, would like to cast a vote that this software code
be released under GPL copyright :)
