They do have a service account, which is an acct associated with a project rather than a user, but that makes the whole authentication stuff a lot more complicated because you have to do oAuth. And then, once you've figured that out, they'll probably change it.

Perhaps we should contact Google, and ask them? It would help if we would be able to get a 'project' key.
