Thanks for that Ron. That's great news. I've tested in Moodle v2 and worked for me albeit in xampp but its promising!

Do we know anyone who is using ldap in production? That would be the next major box to tick.

It's been a long time coming but I've now tested this in Moodle 1.9 and 2.0 as well as just normal auth and it seems to work... fingers crossed.

Can anyone with Moodle installs or LDAP confirm? Or deny?

The change to the function in edit is a bit belt-and-braces and might not all be needed but gives more scope for logging potential errors.
